NIT Meghalaya among top 25 govt engineering colleges
SHILLONG, July 5: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya has been ranked 16th among the likes of IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay of the few well-established engineering institutes in the country by the Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2022: India’s Top 25 Government Engineering Colleges. The list of top engineering colleges boasts of academic and research excellence, industry interface and placement, infrastructure and facilities, governance and admissions and diversity and outreach. The institute presently functions from a temporary campus at the Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, of the North-Eastern Hill University and will soon be shifting to its permanent campus at Sohra in a few years’ time. In just a few years, NIT Meghalaya has climbed up from 100th rank in the NIRF 2017 to 59th rank in 2021 in the Engineering category by the National Institutes Ranking Framework.

EWKH gets DTO office
MAIRANG, July 5: The office of the District Transport Officer (DTO) of Eastern West Khasi Hills was inaugurated by Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh at Lumsohkhlur here on Tuesday. The Speaker also unveiled the foundation stone for the permanent building of the office at a function.In his address, Lyngdoh lauded the Transport department for fast-tracking the process of bringing administration closer to the people with the inauguration of the office. Speaking about road accidents, he advised citizens to cautiously drive and adhere to rules and regulations.

HC extension building by July
SHILLONG, July 5: The extension building of the High Court of Meghalaya is likely to be completed by July-end.Informing this, an official of PWD (Buildings) said that the biggest advantage of the extension is that it would be able to accommodate around 200 vehicles in its parking lot. “By the end of July, we expect that the building will be fully completed,” the official said, while adding that finishing works on the project is under way at present. In addition, the department is also working on constructing an overbridge, which will avoid shops and provide a direct access from the main road to the High Court building.

Tura CH clarifies on RTI claim
Tura, July 5: The Tura Civil Hospital on Tuesday clarified that there has been a misinterpretation of an RTI application, the account of which was published earlier on June 1. The report was based on an RTI application by Achik Youth Council (AYC) general secretary Maxbirth G Momin. The activist had claimed that there were at least 157 nursing vacancies in the Tura Civil Hospital itself, which, as per the hospital, was a misrepresentation of facts that could mislead the general public. In the clarification, the Tura Civil Hospital said that the report of 157 posts of nursing staff lying vacant was not true. “As per the query, the answer given was ‘As per the norms of the Indian Nursing Council, the required number of nurses for TCH would be 157. This has been misrepresented as 157 vacant posts in the hospital. The statement is false and misleading,” stated the clarification from the hospital authorities.

Road closure for repair work
SHILLONG, July 6: The office of the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police has informed that the road from Mission Compound Junction to Iawmusiang (DC Point) and the one-way road from Iawmusiang to Chutwakhu (entry from Iaphi Shopping Complex) will be closed on Wednesday from 8:30 am to 3 pm in view of repair work.
