SHILLONG, July 13: A supposed member of A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), a non-governmental organisation based in the state, has been arrested after he allegedly abducted a girl. However, the AHAM has vehemently denied that the arrested person is attached with the organisation.
In a bid to provide clarity, AHAM, on the other hand, said the organisation and the suspect Kingston Marak had severed ties since 2021.
“Any personal activities of his present day should not be related to the organisation,” the group said.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh said that an FIR was filed with Rajabala Outpost on Tuesday on a girl who was missing since July 11. Accordingly, a case was registered.
An investigation was launched which concluded that the missing girl was purportedly abducted by one Kingston B Marak, a resident of Tikrikilla and a member of AHAM.
The police also learned that the girl had been taken to Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.
Subsequently, police in East Garo Hills was alerted about the case and the suspect was arrested.
Eventually, the girl was found as well.
Police have also sized a car and two mobile phones which are suspected to have been used in the crime.
In another case, two girls including a minor who had gone missing from Shillong since July 7 were rescued from Kherapara by West Garo Hills Police.
Following inputs from East Khasi Hills Police, their West Garo Hills counterpart launched an operation and recovered them from Kherapara on Tuesday.
A suspect was also detained. The girls along with the suspect were handed over to East Khasi Hills Police on Wednesday morning for further action.
