SHILLONG, July 13: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday submitted before the High Court of Meghalaya that they have prepared a blueprint for allotment of three acres of land near the Reid Provincial Chest (TB) Hospital at Mawbah for construction of a multi-storey building to house residents of Harijan Colony.
The state government made the submission during a hearing on the matter pertaining to the Harijan Panchayat Committee.
The Court noted the state’s submission with regard to the blueprint and said, “It is hoped that the matter receives a quietus upon the government proposal being found satisfactory by the applicant.”
It may be noted that West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang and the Mawbah Dorbar Shnong have already expressed their stiff opposition to the government move to relocate as many as 342 families from Harijan Colony to Mawbah.
Rapsang had met Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and made it clear that shifting the colony to Mawbah is not feasible as the population density in the area is high. “If we bring the people of one more colony to the area, things will become uncontrollable,” he warned.
Tynsong had clarified that the government was exploring the areas to where the residents of the colony can be shifted and nothing has been decided so far.
