KVK Ri-Bhoi celebrates ICAR’s foundation day with farmers

SHILLONG, July 16: The KVK Ri-Bhoi on Saturday joined the nationwide celebrations of 94th ICAR Foundation Day with the farming fraternity.
According to a statement, the programme at KVK campus, ICAR, Umiam, was attended by Subject Matter Specialist (Fishery) Bankitkupar Mukhim, farmers from Ri-Bhoi, among others.
During the programme, the farmers were briefed the about the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the significance of the day.
The programme was then followed by live streaming of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s address to the farmers.
“The union minister placed on record the commendable works carried out by KVKs across the country and their contribution in various fields of agricultural and allied sciences and stressed that a lot need to be done to increase production and productivity for self-reliance,” the statement said.
As part of the programme, 150 saplings of Assam lemon were also distributed among the farmers.
