Govt sounds COVID-19 alert

SHILLONG, July 20: The state government on Wednesday rang the alarm bells as cases of COVID-19 witnessed a sudden surge.
The state recorded 102 fresh cases, the highest daily spike in 2022, taking the number of active cases to 358.
Alarmed over the sudden spike, the Home department asked all citizens to wear masks and maintain physical distance in public places.
The order also asked all eligible citizens to avail the free precautionary dose whereby such special vaccination camps will be carried out as part of the COVID Vaccination Amrit Mahotsav from July 15 to September 30 which will be operationalised at big office complexes, industrial establishments, inter-state bus terminus, schools and colleges.
With the recovery of 16 patients on Wednesday, the number of recoveries has gone up to 92,558, while the death toll remained at 1595, official data said.
