Ex-Mawphlang MLA joins NPP

SHILLONG, July 26: Former Mawphlang MLA Kennedy C Khyriem has joined the National People’s Party (NPP) in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, during a meeting in Mawphlang on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the chief minister announced that Khyriem will contest the 2023 Assembly polls from Mawphlang on an NPP ticket.
Talking to reporters after joining the party, Khyriem expressed his willingness to work together with sitting MDC of the party Mawphlang-Diengiei, Lamphrang Blah.
On the reason to leave the Congress, he said that the party is losing its prominence since many of the leaders, including party MLAs, have left the party.
