MAWKYRWAT, July 28: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District Unit, on Thursday, reiterated its stance against uranium mining in the district warning any party or government vying for initiating the activity again in the area.
The KSU’s remark comes in the wake of DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh’s statement in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the Centre has not abandoned the idea and will continue with its attempt to mine uranium from Domiasiat-Mawthabah area in South West Khasi Hills.
Training its guns on the MDA Government, the KSU president called it the puppet of the Government of India. “We have demanded that the state government should bring in a resolution in the Assembly to close the chapter of the proposed uranium mining in Meghalaya, but till now the government has done nothing,” he added.
