14-day judicial custody for Bernard

SHILLONG, Aug 10: Tainted BJP state vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Wednesday under relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tura, also allowed the investigating officer in the case to arrest Marak in another case related to seizure of explosives from his farmhouse Rimpu Bagan at Edenbari, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore said.
“Accordingly, he will be arrested later tonight from Tura Jail and produced in court tomorrow,” the SP said.
Police had seized 35 gelatine sticks, 100 detonators, four crossbows and 15 arrows from the farmhouse on July 29. Marak was arrested on July 27 by Uttar Pradesh police from Hapur district after Meghalaya police issued a nationwide alert against him.
The BJP leader was on the run after police raided his farmhouse from where six minors were rescued and 73 people were arrested on July 22.
