NONGSTOIN, Aug 10: The state government has earmarked Rs 138 crore for all 46 blocks of Meghalaya.
Announcing this during the foundation-laying ceremony for Integrated Block Development Complex in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the government will allocate Rs three crore to each block for infrastructural development.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that that the government has accorded thrust to backward regions of the state and is working to ensure that developmental interventions reach every nook and cranny of the state.
Arguing that the new block office will ensure efficient services to the people of the area, he said the government infrastructure in rural areas and at block level was in a dilapidated state and the government is now ensuring that the same is ameliorated without delay.
He also informed the gathering about improvement of various important roads in West Khasi Hills, viz. Nongsain-Maweit , Nongstoin-Wakhaji and Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai roads.
Speaking about welfare schemes to women and farmers, Conrad informed that that more than Rs 300 crore has been released to 35,000 self-help groups (SHGs) in the state in the last four years.
Referring to FOCUS programme, he said, “The government intends to continue with welfare initiatives for the farmers. We want to ensure our farmers’ progress, which ultimately ensures financial stability and development of the farming community.”
The chief minister also handed over financial assistance for oyster mushroom farmers under the Meghalaya Mushroom Mission and producers group under the FOCUS programme.
The programme was also attended by C&RD Minister Hamletson Dohling and local MLA Macmillan Byrsat.
