MLCU observes International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples

SHILLONG, Aug 11: The School of Theology and Religious Studies of the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) on Wednesday observed the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.
According to a statement, a talk was organised as part of the observance which was attended by prominent writer and contemporary scholar Dr Barnes Mawrie, MLCU Chancellor Dr Glen C Kharkongor, among others.
Dr Mawrie, while speaking on ‘Indigenous Peoples in India: A Latent Force to Contend With’, painted a broad canvas of the history, locale, identity, existence and experience of the global indigenous people.
Laying specific focus on the indigenous people in India, particularly in the Northeast, Dr Mawrie said they are people with great talents, abilities and potentials – which all are untapped or not adequately enabled.
