SHILLONG, Aug 22: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh has maintained that the state government did not lifted the ban on use of fertilisers for political mileage.
“It is misleading to allege that the decision was taken to gain political mileage. We have taken this decision for the overall interest and benefit of the farmers,” Lyngdoh said, while speaking at a meeting to brief the farmers about the revocation of ban on use of fertilisers.
The meeting, which was held Mawkatheiñ near Smit on Monday, was attended by Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem, Director of Agriculture department R Majaw, farmers, et al.
Banteidor, during the meeting, however admitted that problems of the farmers are only remembered during elections.
“But the problems faced by farmers are always forgotten after elections. But I have been following up this matter for the past four and half years. I am happy now that the ban, which was imposed since 2014, has been lifted,” the agriculture minister said.
Lyngdoh also informed that that he will soon visit the national capital and meet Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar for allotment of fertilisers to the farmers in Meghalaya.
“We would not want to delay this anymore. We understand how the farmers have been suffering for the past eight years,” Lyngdoh said.
