Police recover heroin in EJH
JOWAI, Aug 26: Acting on inputs with regard to suspected transit of contraband items, East Jaintia Hills Police intercepted one Lamdeibha Suchen, who was travelling in a commercial vehicle with the registration number ML 10 1623, in Umtyra and recovered 12.45 grams of heroin among other items including a mobile phone around Rs 1,800 in cash. The vehicle was reportedly coming from Kalain, Assam.

NEHU holds 2-day int’l workshop
SHILLONG, Aug 26: A two-day international workshop on ‘Mathematical Foundation and Applications of Gravity’, sponsored by the Science Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology (DST-SERB), was held on Thursday and Friday. The event was organized by the Department of Basic Science and Social Sciences (BSSS), North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) with active support from Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU. The event was inaugurated in the University by the Vice Chancellor, Prof PS Shukla. More than 270 participants registered from India and abroad. The main objective of the workshop was to highlight the connection between Mathematics and Physics which has immense applications in modern times.

Language inspection at govt office
SHILLONG, Aug 26: As a part of the annual programme of Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, a team of officials visited the Regional Office for Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at Dhankheti here on Friday. After the inspection of the functioning of the office in the official language, Hindi, the officials were satisfied with the “excellent performance” and functioning of the office in the use of the official language. The inspecting team appreciated the team work of regional office and promised to support the office to achieved 100 per cent functioning in official language (Hindi) as per government guidelines, according to a statement.
