SHILLONG, Aug 27: A senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader is expected to sort out the infighting in the party’s Meghalaya unit next month.
BJP Meghalaya in-charge, M Chuba Ao said the party’s national general secretary (organisation), B.L. Santosh is reaching Shillong on September 3 for a two-day visit to assess the situation arising out of allegations hurled by some BJP members against one another.
He said the senior party leader would find out what is happening here and how the issues can be resolved.
The infighting had made Ao discuss the issue with Santosh.
The BJP in Meghalaya seems to be divided into different groups at the moment.
Santosh is scheduled to have a series of meetings with the party’s officer-bearers, Morcha mandals, district organisation, and the MLAs and MDCs. He is also likely to meet all the candidates for the 2023 Assembly polls as well as those keen on contesting on a BJP ticket.
Meanwhile, state BJP chief Ernest Mawrie said the agenda of development can help the party win the 2023 polls as people have come to associate progress with BJP.
“Many are joining the party because of this agenda,” he said at a programme to induct more than 100 people from the North Shillong constituency into the party.
He claimed the number of people joining the BJP, especially at the grassroots level, has been increasing every week. “It is a good sign and shows that the acceptance of the party is only growing,” he said. Pointing out various central sponsored schemes, he said the party seeks inclusive development and has therefore initiated several schemes to let every individual avail of the benefits.
BJP leaders said many NPP, UDP and TMC supporters have switched over to the saffron camp and a few MLAs are likely to cross over ahead of the polls to avoid the anti-defection law.
