SHILLONG, Aug 30: After a long wait of 11 years, the Mawmuthoh Sub-Health Centre at Mawmuthoh village under Mawryngkneng Block in East Khasi Hills has finally become a reality for the locals of the area.
The health centre was inaugurated by Nongkrem MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister Lambor Malngiang on Tuesday in the presence of senior officials of the Health department.
Notably, work for the construction of the building of the sub-health centre was allotted in 2011, while the building was completed in 2012.
The cost of the project is Rs 15 lakh.
For years, the work on the centre was delayed as the Health department had failed to provide a job to one of the family members of the land owner, Siyoda Kharmudai, who donated the land in 2009.
Kharmudai had even occupied the building of the sub-centre accusing the state government of failing to respect and honour the terms of agreement.
The land owner had said that she was willing to vacate the centre and the land if the state government fulfills its promise of providing a job to one of her family members.
Following the incident, Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang asked the Health department to make efforts to inaugurate the health sub-centre by August.
Speaking on the occasion, Malngiang said that he is elated to observe the centre seeing the light of day for the benefit of people.
Now, people can access medical care without having the hassle to travel all the way to Smit, Malngiang said as he attributed the fruition of the sub-centre to the cooperation of all stakeholders including the Rangbah Shnong, local residents and the Health department.
He asked people to avail of the services of the sub-health centre, while particularly advising pregnant mothers, who often ignore going for prenatal check-ups risking their health, to visit the centre timely.
