SHILLONG, Sep 21: The state government has informed the High Court of Meghalaya that the Bailey bridge to connect Sonapur with Borkhat will be up and running by November.
A division bench of the High Court on Wednesday disposed of the application after the state government filed a detailed report on the work on the 39.5-km stretch of road from Borkhat to Sonapur.
“In the report filed on Wednesday, details of the time to be taken for site clearance, earthwork, construction of side drains and cross drainage works, undertaking granular sub-base and base course work, protection works, bituminous works, bridge works and traffic signs and road appurtenances have been indicated. The report also reveals that to restore communication on the road an 18-metre span Bailey bridge is being put up and the Bailey bridge will be completed for use by November 2022,” the division bench said.
“In view of the detailed reports filed previously and today and it being fairly clear that the construction on the relevant stretch should be completed within reasonable time, the application was disposed of,” the Court added.
It is pertinent to note that the state government had earlier informed the High Court that the notice for commencement of the work had been issued to the contractor, who was given three months’ time to furnish a detailed project report (DPR).
The date of commencement of construction, however, was not informed earlier by the state government.
