SHILLONG, Sep 24: Rajya Sabha member WR Kharlukhi has urged the state youths to face their challenges with a positive attitude and look for avenues where they can create a platform to become job creators and not job seekers.
The MP was addressing a gathering at a programme to celebrate the 53rd NSS Foundation Day at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Kharlukhi reminisced his days as an active NSS volunteer.
Extolling the NSS for rendering yeoman services through various social programmes, the MP dwelled on the problems faced by the educated youths of Meghalaya where unemployment is a big challenge.
He appealed to the youths to develop a positive attitude, face their challenges and look for avenues where they can create a platform to become job creators rather than job seekers.
He also asked the NSS volunteers to educate people on the need to generate employment opportunities for themselves and others.
As part of the programme, University Level Awards 2022 under various categories were conferred upon Ri-Bhoi College, St. Mary’s College, NEHU Shillong, Lady Keane College and Shillong College.
State NSS Officer F Rumnong, who was part of the programme, shed light on the history of NSS and informed the gathering about the regional, national and international activities it is engaged in.
Rumnong also accentuated the need to give weightage and incentives to NSS volunteers so that the same will facilitate employment opportunities for NSS volunteers.
NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla, in his address, said that NSS volunteers are preserving the culture in Meghalaya and other Northeastern states.
He also pointed out how NSS acts as a linkage between the educational institutions and the society.
It may be mentioned that the programme was attended by over 1,000 NSS volunteers from the state.
