SHILLONG, Sep 26: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), which comprises local organisations such as Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and Ka Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong, Ri-Bhoi, has registered strong opposition to expansion of power distribution franchisee in Umsning Division.
The decision was taken in the meeting of the JAC held on September 10.
In a petition to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power, Prestone Tynsong, the JAC said the people and employees are suffering in places where the government has made FEDCO the franchisee — Mawsynram, Mawkyrwat and Garo Hills.
They claimed that the decision of the government is against the will of the people of Umsning.
