SHILLONG, Sep 29: North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla has contended that entire country should be au courant with the bravehearts of Meghalaya and their supreme sacrifice.
The VC said this on Thursday after inaugurating a two-day open-for-all ‘Photo Exhibition and Outreach Activity’ at NEHU.
According to statement, the two-day event is being organised by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Regional Office, (MT Region), Shillong, in association with Pro Bono Associates Club, Department of Law, NEHU, as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
While addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme, the VC remembered the sacrifices of Meghalaya’s bravehearts including U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma, and said the entire country should be aware of their supreme sacrifice.
Stating that the purpose of the exhibition is to make people aware about the contributions of the freedom fighters and about the rich history and heritage of India, the VC exhorted the participants to uphold and work towards the dreams that the bravehearts once envisioned for India.
“Through the photo panels displayed in this exhibition, we can learn about the unsung heroes of the Northeast whose contribution for the Independent India had been immense,” he said.
Director, CBC, Shillong, Engam Pame, on the other hand, briefed the gathering about various outreach activities that will be organised for the dissemination of information at grassroots level.
Pame said that these programmes are being organised so that people can avail the benefits of various public welfare schemes of the government.
It may be mentioned that the exhibition showcases the freedom struggle of India through a series of photo exhibits.
A special section in the exhibition is also dedicated to eight Years of Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan, where the achievements of the government across various sectors in the last eight years, including in the Northeast, have been highlighted.
Others who were part of the inaugural programme include faculty members and students of NEHU.
