TURA, Oct 2: As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, the District Level Swachh Bharat Diwas 2022 was celebrated at Multi Facility Centre, Aminda Rangsa under Gambegre C&RD Block in West Garo Hills on Saturday.
The programme was organised by District Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), West Garo Hills.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest of the function Saljagring G Momin, Extra Assistant Commissioner, West Garo Hills, highlighted the dreams and vision of Mahatma Gandhi for a clean India and also spoke about the statewide campaign on visual cleanliness of villages during Swachhata Hi Seva campaign to clean up the garbage or waste dumped around in the villages with nationwide participation on October 2.
Emphasising on the importance and necessity of cleanliness and personal hygiene, Momin said that clean mind and body with clean environment help a person to stay fit and healthy and free from various diseases.
According to the national statistics report, many people spend almost 70 per cent of their earnings for treatment of health-related issues and are hence left with a meager amount for family requirements.
Moreover, he also spoke about the bad effects of plastic pollution which causes land degradation, ecological imbalance, etc., and related issues and urged everyone to work towards cleanliness in their surroundings and elsewhere for which, he stated that a behavioural change is necessary.
Meanwhile, Sheamnath A Sangma, a popular Garo actor, who was also present during the function as the special guest, advised the gathering to maintain cleanliness in their respective areas and to avoid using single-use plastics so as to contribute toward achieving success in the implementation of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in the Garo Hills region.
During the function, the chief guest along with the special guest distributed certificates to the five Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus Model Villages which comprises Ganol A’pal village from Rongram Block, Aminda Rangsa village from Gambegre Block, Marapara village from Dalu Block, Boldampitbari village from Tikrikilla and Kalsingre village from Dadenggre Civil Sub-division.
