Gathering sensitised against TB in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, October 11: The Office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, Ri-Bhoi, organised a one-day district-level sensitisation workshop on ‘Sensitisation of Community Support Scheme for Tuberculosis Patients’ on Tuesday.
The workshop was attended by Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Addl. Deputy Commissioner R Kharbihkhiew, Dr. Abhishek Saini from AIIMS, health officials, et al.
State TB Officer Dr M Mawrie, in his presentation, highlighted the grave impact of tuberculosis, and informed that approximately 26 lakh people in India contract the disease while approximately four lakh people succumb to the same every year.
He also informed that there are around 3,053 patients in Meghalaya who are undergoing treatment currently while approximately 200 persons die in the state from tuberculosis every year.
