SHILLONG, Oct 11: The mortal remains of city-based mountaineer Tiklu Jyrwa, who had lost his life in the avalanche in Uttarakhand, was laid to rest at the Presbyterian Church cemetery, Lumparing on Tuesday afternoon.
Family members and friends attended the funeral service that was held at his residence in Upper Lumparing.
Jyrwa was part of a team of 41 people – 34 trainees and 7 trainers —who had gone missing after an avalanche hit them on Droupadi Ka Danda in Uttarkashi on October 4. He had had gone for training in an advanced mountaineering course organised by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
Jyrwa, a member of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA), is among the 27 persons who lost their lives in the tragedy.
The body of Jyrwa and other mountaineers, including Deepshikha Hazarika from Assam, was recovered by the rescue team on October 8.
