MAWKYRWAT, Oct 16: The clamour for a C&RD Block at Umdohlun-Wahkaji area is only growing louder with the leaders representing people from Umdohlun, Phlangdiloin and Warsan Lyngdoh area under South West Khasi Hills persistently nudging the state government on the matter.
Accompanied by former Assembly Speaker and NPP leader MM Danggo, the leaders of Umdohlun, Phlangdiloin and Warsan Lyngdoh under the umbrella of the Wahkaji-Mawnore C&RD Block Demand Committee recently met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and submitted a memorandum with the demand for C&RD Block at Umdohlun-Wahkaji area.
Spokesperson of the Committee, Zandy Myrthong, said the demand for creation of a new block started in 2012 and will continue until it is fulfilled.
According to him, the proposed C&RD Block will have its jurisdiction over three ‘GS Circles’ — Warsan Lyngdoh GS Circle, Phlangdiloin GS Circle and Umdohlun GS Circle. “Under these three GS Circles, there are villages where the distances from Mawkyrwat C&RD Block or Ranikor C&RD Block by road is about 80-100 km. This has created problems for our people who need to visit the block office for different purposes,” Myrthong said.
He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for urging the Chief Secretary to look into the matter.
Myrthong said the Wahkaji-Mawnore C&RD Block Demand Committee will soon meet C&RD Minister Hamletson Dohling and South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner on the matter. “We will organise public meetings so that the general public can participate and tell the government what they need,” he added.
