BJP elects new office-bearers to combat drug menace

SHILLONG, Oct 18: The Shillong City Mahila Morcha of BJP on Tuesday elected 102 office-bearers for Shillong city mandal in a bid to ensure that campaign against drugs reaches every household.
It may be mentioned that the BJP had, a week ago, said that the party will soon launch a state-wide campaign to weed out the issue of drugs in Meghalaya.
Following the election of the office-bearers for six constituencies on Tuesday, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie saidg that the decision was taken to ensure that war against drugs every household, thereby bringing a positive impact on the society.
“If our future, the youth primarily, are not guided and protected from the clutches of drugs, then our society and families are sure of a bleak future, and the economic and social development shall remain stagnant, which are the ultimate goal of the BJP Meghalaya Pradesh,” said Mawrie .
The state BJP president also informed that the BJP Mahila Morcha Shillong will unite with other morchas and mandals to fight the drug menace.
Mawrie had earlier said that the state BJP has already apprised the central leadership of the drug menace in Meghalaya, and a full-fledged mechanism will soon be launched by the BJP to eradicate the same.
