SHILLONG, Oct 30: The stage is perhaps set for Sohra to turn into a district as Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has announced that Pynursla will not be part of the proposed Sohra district. The district will only include areas which are under the Sohra Civil Subdivision at present.
The Deputy CM, who is also the MLA of Pynursla, made this statement at the Duwan Sing Syiem Day programme at Sohra Maraikaphon on Saturday.
After this statement, the Deputy CM has made it clear that Sohra would finally be upgraded to a district.
Recalling that in the past, there have been talks to include Pynursla in the Sohra district, Tynsong said after careful evaluation and discussions, it was found that the idea is not feasible. Instead it is delaying the process of upgrading Sohra into a district, he added.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, during the meeting with the Sohra District Demand Forum (SDDF) recently, had said if Pynursla is not willing to be included in Sohra district, the government will have to respect their wish.
As of now, it is upon the chief secretary to call all the stakeholders from Shella and Sohra to address any concerns, following which he would submit the report for the state government to take the decision.
