NGH muga farmers educated on importance of sericulture

TURA, Nov 1: Muga farmers in North Garo Hills were on Tuesday educated on the importance of sericulture in the uplift of socio-economic conditions of the farming fraternity.
A total of 80 muga farmers were part of an awareness programme on muga farming at Unit Farm in Rompara, Resubelpara, organised by the Central Silk Board, MESSO, P-3 Unit, Rompara.
Addressing the gathering, Scientist B, Dr Vikram Kumar, said that the awareness programme was aimed at encouraging the farming fraternity to take up muga farming at business level.
The muga farmers were also educated on the importance of sericulture in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the farmers.
As part of the programme, a technical session on quality seed production, procedure, care and sanitation measures to be taken during grainage operation was conducted for the farmers.
They were also apprised of the benefits of muga rearing over traditional crops.
DSO SG Momin, on the other hand, highlighted the different diseases of muga and the identification of the symptoms.
She also elaborated on the importance of disinfection of muga to check spread of diseases.
