SHILLONG, Nov 3: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) on Thursday called off their sit-in in front of the Secretariat on November 4 and November 7.
“We have decided to call off the protest following a request from the state government. We have been assured of an audience with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at 4 pm on November 8,” HYYM president Louis Dohtdong said in a statement.
Dohtdong said that they will decide on their future course of action depending on the outcome of the meeting with the CM.
He further urged that leaders of the various district, zone and circle to be present during the meeting with the CM.
Withdraw prohibitory orders under Sec 144
The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) on Thursday gave a one-week deadline to the East Khasi Hills district administration to withdraw the prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in Shillong and its agglomeration.
“We will be forced to approach the High Court of Meghalaya if the district administration fails to withdraw the order,” HITO president Donbok Dkhar said after meeting Additional Deputy Commissioner RV Wahlang here.According to him, the district administration should withdraw the order since it was in conflict with Article 14, 19 and 25 of the Constitution.
Echoing similar views, the HYC said that there is something wrong with the imposition of Sec 144.
“Assaults may take place whether there Sec 144 CrPC is imposed or not. We feel that this order will unnecessarily create problems for the people. My question is how the authorities will determine whether five or six people travelling in car are going to Iewduh, attending a wedding or attending a rally,” HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin said.
Kharjahrin also wanted to know if four or five politicians go together for a campaign will they be arrested.
