NEW DELHI, Nov 3: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday condemned last week’s violent incidents in Shillong during the “public rally against unemployment” organised by the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and urged the Centre and the state government to ensure peace and security for tribal and non-tribal people.
“The manner in which the protest against ostensive unemployment by the FKJGP turned into an all-out violent frenzy, is a cause of concern not only for the Meghalaya government or the central government, but for the entire country,” Milind Parande, who is the VHP’s central secretary general said in a statement.
The VHP demanded adequate security for the innocent and stringent action against the perpetrators of the crime. It also demanded that the political organizations of the “secular fraternity”, which give “nourishment” to the violence-mongers, should be “pulled up and taught a good lesson”.
The statement said the political and anti-national slogans chanted by the violent mob made it amply clear as to what powers are behind this ostensible agitation.
It seems that the desperate opposition is instigating and activating a section of the youth to go for violence, the VHP leader said. He criticised FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit for allegedly terrorising the peace-loving society even while showing concern.
“The VHP expects the Meghalaya government and the central government to take firm action against the violent elements and provide a suitable environment for the peace-loving tribal and non-tribal society. Violence can be the agenda of the separatists, not of the youth power conscious of its bright future,” he added.
