SHILLONG, Nov 6: More than 350 leaders and supporters of BJP’s North Shillong unit on Saturday joined the National People’s Party (NPP) during a meeting which was held at the Dorbar Hall of Lawmali on Saturday.
They were formally welcomed in the party fold by NPP candidate from North Shillong, Ransom Sutnga, and president of NPP Shillong City, Lamphang Kharmujai.
Speaking on the occasion, NPP candidate Sutnga said that the joining of the leaders and supporters of the BJP is a major boost to the party’s prospects in North Shillong.
He added that more than 100 supporters of the TMC will also be joining the NPP in the coming days.
Meanwhile, one of the BJP leaders, Alwyn Lyngdoh Nonglait, said that they decided to leave the saffron party after their leader and former MDC from Jaiaw, Martamlin Pyrbot, had left in September.
“We all unanimously decided to join the NPP,” Nonglait, who was the former president of the BJP North Shillong, added.
