SHILLONG, Dec 7: As questions continue to be raised over manpower crisis in the Police department, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has informed that it will soon call on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and raise the issue of unfilled vacancies in the department.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit said, “As per population and the area of our state, the number of police personnel is very small. So, the government should try to recruit more police personnel in our state.”
Referring to 2,000 unfilled vacancies in the Police department, he said, “We had raised this issue earlier and we had asked the government to speed up the matter in recruiting police personnel.”
He also informed the FKJGP will discuss the matter with the chief minister and seek a remedy.
“We have sought an appointment with the chief minister. Once we meet him, we will address the problem and ask what is to be done,” the FKJGP president said.
Khongsit also asked the state government to immediately fill up more than 7,000 posts lying vacant in various departments.
Plea to set up feed mill
in prime location
Meanwhile, the FKJGP president also informed that they have asked the state government to set up the upcoming biggest feed mill of Northeast in a prime location in Meghalaya and come up with a policy to ensure that the local farmers are given the first preference for supply.
After meeting Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong here, Khongsit said the government will set up the feed mill as per the guidelines within the industrial estate, albeit two-three more areas have been identified for the same purpose.
As per the deputy chief minister, Mendipathar will be one of the areas due to its feasibility as it is near a railway station, Khongsit said.
The FKJGP president also informed that they have suggested the government to come up with their own policy regarding the administration of the feed mill so that the local indigenous farmers are given first preference for supply.
In August 2021, during the inauguration of the facilitation centre at Mendipathar Railway Station in North Garo Hills, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said that the biggest feed mill of Northeast is being set up at Mendipathar because of the railway connectivity there.
According to him, Mendipathar is a preferred destination for investment as it has the necessary infrastructure and facilities, particularly railway connectivity.
