NEHU adopts WGH village to promote agri activities

TURA, Dec 8: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura campus, has adopted Darechikgre village in West Garo Hills with an aim to facilitate various agricultural activities there.
NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla and village nokma Plainson A Sangma sealed the deal by signing a memorandum of agreement (MoA) during ‘Village Adoption and Entrepreneurship Development Programme’, organised by Biotech KISAN Hub, NEHU, Tura campus, on Thursday.
With the adoption, the university plans to facilitate numerous agricultural activities such as bio-composting, vermicomposting, growing of vegetables within low-cost shade net houses, etc., in the village
It may be mentioned that the day-long programme was organised in a bid to identify and motivate both traditional and non-traditional entrepreneurs and farmers who have the potential of setting up small and micro enterprises.
The programme was also aimed at upgrading the skills of prospective farmers and the existing workforce, and providing training for the production and marketing process of agricultural products for entrepreneurship development with technological skills.
