SHILLONG, Dec 9: Child Friendly Shillong, Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS), in collaboration with Kripa Foundation and the Office of the District Child Protection Unit has launched a campaign against drugs in Shillong.
Thematised on ‘Be Brave, be happy, be drug-free’, the campaign will end on December 19 and comprises a slew of activities for dissemination of awareness on the ill effects of drug abuse.
As part of the campaign, the students of the Indian Institute of Professional Studies on Friday performed a flash mob and street play at Nongmensong taxi stand to highlight the effects of drug abuse.
Shedding light on the campaign, Chief Friendly Shillong, BIDS, team member Deep Gurung revealed that the campaign was launched following suggestions from the Rangbah Shnongs and community leaders on the need to create awareness in the society on the problem of drug abuse.
Gurung also informed that Kripa Foundation is providing free treatment such as de-addiction, detoxification, and medicines to drug abusers below 13 years old.
Meanwhile, Gurung has stressed that parents, teachers, caretakers and elders in the society have a role to play in building up brave, confident and happy children who understand the value of life.
