Tura, Dec 14: One sitting Independent MLA and three just-resigned MLAs of poll-bound Meghalaya joined the BJP in New Delhi  today in presence of the NEDA convenor and Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Out of the four HM Shangpliang, Ferlin CA Sangma and Benedic Marak recently resigned as MLAs and quit their respective political parties.

H M Shangpliang has shifted allegiance to the BJP from the AITC while Benedict Marak  and Ferlin CA Sangma were from the NPP . Samuel Sangma is an independent MLA and was an associate member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) before joining the BJP today.

All these parties – NPP, BJP and UDP are constituents of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA). However, they are going to contest Assembly election early next year as separate entities.
