SHILLONG, Dec 13: Trinamool Congress chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promised constitution of an expert committee to look into the demands of implementation of ILP in Meghalaya if her party comes into power in Meghalaya next year.
Terming the ILP demand as a sensitive issue, she said that once their government is formed they would setup an expert committee and take a decision accordingly.
“NPP and BJP are taking it lightly but we are taking this very seriously,” Banerjee asserted.
Asked if the demand for ILP would feature in party’s election manifesto, she said, “If we say everything about our manifesto now, what would be left to see in the manifesto?”
Stating that the TMC is against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens, she said she will not allow people to be struck off the list of citizens and sent to detention camps.
Banerjee also unveiled the “We Card” — TMC Meghalaya’s financial inclusion for women empowerment scheme. It was informed that if TMC comes to power in the state, a committee will be constituted to verify the registered beneficiaries and ensure requisite documents and bank details are available.
Under this scheme, a direct transfer will be made to a woman of every household as guaranteed income support 1,000 per month (12,000 yearly) to every household.
According to the TMC, there is an absence of a non-discriminatory, income support for women in Meghalaya, while in the last 5 years Meghalaya’s debt has increased by 55% and the state recorded the 4th lowest per capita income in the country. “68% of the women are not a part of the labour force.
Therefore, this scheme will be a significant step towards making women self-reliant and empowering households,” the party said.
Giving out the budget outlay, it was informed that direct transfer of Rs 1,000 per month (Rs 12,000 yearly) to every household will incur a total expenditure of Rs 1,650-2,700 crore.
