SHILLONG, Dec 14: Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) leader Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Wednesday informed that he will join the United Democratic Party (UDP) after two weeks.
When asked if he is apprehensive of leaving the party he successfully contested from in the last Assembly elections, Tongkhar replied in negative.
It may be mentioned that Tongkhar had earlier justified his decision to join the UDP, stating that he wants to see one regional party in Meghalaya.
“I want to see that the dream to have only one regional party in the state becomes a reality. It is with this objective in mind I decided to join the UDP,” Tongkhar had said last month.
With the sitting Mawkyrwat MLA leaving the HSPDP for UDP, the former has already decided to field Medalson Lyngdoh Tongkhar from Mawkyrwat in the upcoming elections polls.
