Umpling to get mini football stadium

SHILLONG, Dec 20: In what can be termed as good news for football lovers and enthusiasts, the foundation stone for a mini football stadium at Umpling was laid by Mawryngkneng MLA Pyniaid Sing Syiem recently.
Umpling Sports Club, on the occasion, felicitated athletes from the locality who participated in the 2nd North East Olympic Games hosted by Meghalaya last month.
Eight athletes had won medals in different disciplines during the Games here.
Umpling Tyngkai and Cultural troop and Catherine Pyngrope and group entertained the audience with their performing cultural performances like the ‘Shad Mastieh’.
Umpling Sports Club president L Jyrwa, in a statement, expressed gratefulness to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for sanctioning the mini football stadium project and the local MLA for following up on the matter.
Jyrwa also thanked the Dorbar Shnong Umpling, Seng Longkmie, Seng Samla, Driver Taxi Association and members of the various sub-committees for their contribution and assistance.
Others who were present during the programme include officials from the State Sports Council and PWD, Shillong bye-pass Division besides the residents of the locality, and students from St. Rose Secondary School, Umpling Presbyterian Secondary School, Rose Bud School and Hubert Memorial Higher School.
On the day, Syiem also unveiled a scheme for widening of the 10-km PWD road in Umpling.
