SHILLONG, Dec 28: The newly-elected National People’s Party (NPP) spokesperson, Ampareen Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the United Democratic Party (UDP) should be ready to take collective responsibility for the allegations against the MDA government if it feels it deserves credit for the good things that happened since 2018.
“In response to the allegations, I want to ask the UDP why it leaves all responsibility taken by this government to one party. If you say you need to be given credit for the good things, then you should also take the collective responsibility for the bad things that happened,” she said.
Stating that the wrong and the right go hand in hand, Lyngdoh said the UDP wants to claim glory for the achievements while it does not want to own responsibility for the decisions of the coalition government that did not yield the desired results.
“One should understand that all decisions were taken by all the partners of the coalition. When we have a Chief Minister, it is expected that his face will be at forefront of the achievements of the incumbent government,” she said.
The NPP spokesperson nothing stopped the UDP from putting up the hoardings for highlighting some of its achievements.
“Along with achievements comes decision-taking, which is a part of politics. The party which leads the coalition and the chairperson of the MDA will likely get much of the sunlight and the sunshine,” she said.
It is immature to suck your thumb in the corner and then complain that your lollipop has been taken away, she added.
“If you feel the lollipop is a part of your achievement then grab it, take its picture and display it,” Lyngdoh said, pointing out that it is usual for all kinds of allegations to fly when elections draw near.
“I think it is not unusual that all the good things have been credited to one person. You may look at all coalition governments anywhere in this country,” she said.
Earlier, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh criticised the NPP for taking credit for all government programmes and policies by ignoring its allies in the MDA government.
“It is totally unacceptable that a single constituent of the coalition government is the focal point. The UDP parliamentary party should have taken this up very strongly,” he said.
