SHILLONG, Jan 3: The season of wooing voters is under way in Meghalaya, and in keeping with tradition, the political parties and their candidates are leaving no stone unturned.
The ensuing Assembly elections have not been announced yet, but the candidates are quick on the uptake to make the voters happy.

Hek also handed the work order amounting to Rs 10 lakh for development of the football ground in the locality under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund.
The ASHAs and Anganwadi workers of the locality were also felicitated on the day.
Other who were present on the occasion include NPP state women wing president P Nongpluh, Rangbah Shnong and secretary of Lumshyiap Dorbar A Khongphai and KP Phawa respectively, Rangbah Shnong of Langkyrding Mihngi, Dr B Basaiawmoit, besides others.
In Meghalaya, the release of work orders besides a range of other benefits happens just ahead of polls.
This time around as well, the scenes were similar.
People received blankets in Mawblei, which were provided by Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare.
The blankets carried by multiple persons had ‘given by Dasakhiatbha Lamare’ written on the outside.
Lamare is contesting the polls from Nongkrem constituency.
On the other hand, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) decided to introduce their ‘We Card’ scheme in Meghalaya to woo voters. This card promises assured monthly income support to every household. A direct transfer of Rs 1000 per month (12,000 yearly) will be made to a woman in every household as guaranteed income support.
