BSF, police thwart smuggling bid, seize betel nuts worth Rs 24 lakh

TURA, Jan 8: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in a joint operation with police in South Garo Hills, has confiscated over 11,000 kg of dry betel nuts, which were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
The joint operation was carried out following a tip-off on Saturday at Dambuk Apal area under Rongara Police Station.
The betel nuts, which were worth Rs 24 lakh, were being smuggled in three trucks, which were later intercepted. The truckers, however, managed to flee the scene.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) BSF Meghalaya has lauded the Meghalaya Police for its active participation, and informed that such operations would continue in the future.
