If you’re a die-hard Cristiano Ronaldo fan and want to watch CR7 in action live, then there’s some good news for you. A magazine in Saudi Arabia is now inviting applications for a full-time ‘Ronaldo Correspondent’ to cover the soccer’s megastar as he joins the Riyadh-based club Al Nassr for a record $214 million a year.
Want to apply? You may be in luck. Arabian Business is wooing reporters to join them.
The media house is asking CVs to be sent to their email address, with “previous sports reporting experience not essential.”
The reporter, who will be assigned to cover Ronaldo, will be working for Arabian Business, one of the Middle East’s leading publications, in Riyadh.
He or she will cover his football activities and his life in the Kingdom.
“The Ronaldo correspondent…will be required to cover all matches at Al Nassr, media and commercial related events – and provide daily updates and insights into the life of Ronaldo as he settles into Saudi Arabia,” said the job listing.
Arabian Business’s managing editor Matthew Amlot in an interaction with media said the ever-growing hype and hoopla over Ronaldo’s arrival in the country has compelled his publication to invite application for someone, who can spend a good amount of time with the soccer legend and catch incidents about his life in the kingdom.
“Ronaldo is the biggest star and the biggest story on the planet. It is an industry of its own, and as such it deserves its own full time correspondent.
His move to Saudi Arabia keeps Arab soccer firmly on the global stage, and the successful applicant will play a pivotal part in this unfolding story,” Amlot said.
He said the job will be a full-time one as the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is likely to be one of the main sources of the regional, and global, conversation for the time he spends life in the Gulf.
The move has evoked huge attention.
Al Nassr FC’s Instagram followers ballooned to 7.5 million from a fan base of below a million just a few days ago.
He said his media wants to showcase Ronaldo’s new – and no doubt amazing – life as he begins this new phase of his career with his family.
Speaking about CR7’s overwhelming popularity in Saudi Arabia, Amlot said people are dying to see as to how he adapts to the culture as he tours the country, and of course his performances on the pitch.
“We’ll cater to our readers, in both English and Arabic. Ronaldo news will on a 24/7 basis,” he said.
Applicants will have to be fluent in both English and Arabic, written and spoken, and ready to tell one of the biggest stories the region has ever seen.
Is this your dream job? Have at it. We can’t wait to see what you find.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is now with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
Last week, he signed a deal that has been billed as a “historic moment for football in the middle east.”
“This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves,” the club wrote in a note. According to media reports, the Portugal star could be earning up to $200 million a year from the deal. Which would make him the highest-paid footballplayer in history of world football. (Agencies)
