Meghalaya Cabinet approves State Tourism Policy 2023

Shillong, Jan 11: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Tourism policy 2023, State Organic and Natural Farming Policy, Meghalaya Advertisement Policy 2023, Drug Reduction and Elimination and Action Plan.

Informing this, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the tourism policy was last made in 2011 and since then a lot had happened in the tourism sector and therefore there was a need for a detailed  policy adapting to the current situation.

Elaborating further, he said the Tourism policy would give proper shape and structures as a lot of things have happened but not in a systematic manner and the policy is meant to give shape to the process of its growth.

He further said that the policy would look into various aspects such as sustainability, employment generation, entrepreneurs, community participation, usage of technology and the departments working together and getting the maximum in terms of livelihood and sustainability.

He further said that to achieve these goals certain areas need to be focused upon such as creating proper infrastructure like roads, public utilities, better circuits, improving capacity, promotion and safety of tourists.

Talking about State Organic and Natural Farming policy, he said the idea was to get a proper organic structured system, certification, action to be taken which would provide a complete structure to move forward the organic mission.

On Drug Reduction and Elimination and Action Plan, he said that the mission was to ensure all the aspects of substance abuse were taken up in structured and mission mode manner.

He added that all different departments would be taken into confidence and aspects of rehabilitation, counselling, and working with police department had been worked out in detail in the mission mode objective to make Meghalaya drug-free.

Announcing the Meghalaya Day awards  which will be given on Republic Day, he informed U Tirot Sing award for Art and Literature will be presented to Sweetymon Rynjah, Patogan Sangma award for social services  to Dr Dr Jennifer Basaiawmoit and U Kiang Nangbah Award for sports and games to K Marak.
