SHILLONG, Jan 11: Under pressure of criticisms, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has clarified that one unit of the recently inaugurated Ganol Hydropower project has been made functional while other two units will be made functional in the next 15-20 days.
“On the day when we inaugurated the project, I specifically announced that the first unit is being commissioned and that two more units will be commissioned,” he said.
The statement comes from the CM following criticism regarding the project alleging that it is not functioning fully.
“We started the project with one unit. If they are saying that the other two units are not functioning, we have already said it. But the project is completely functional and one unit has been activated right now while the other two units will also be activated maybe in 15-20 days from now,” he said.
Maintaining that the project would slowly move forward, the CM said power generated from the project has not been put into the grid since tests need to be conducted and stability has to be tested.
