East Jaintia Hills district gets its first artificial football turf

SHILLONG, Jan 12: The East Jaintia Hills District which is known for producing football talents had all the more reasons to cheer on Thursday as the first artificial football turf was inaugurated by Social Welfare Minister and MLA, Kyrmen Shylla at Khliehriat.“EJH district has been producing lots of football players playing at the State national and even international we feel that the need of the hour is to have a good football ground which can be gifted to the football lovers so that they can practise and harness their talent,” said Shylla after inaugurating the artificial football turf.The Social Welfare Minister said that this is a tribute to the football lovers and a result of the joint contribution and efforts put in by ex MLAs and MDCs and stakeholders.The Minister also promised to build one such turf every five years if he is re-elected from the constituency.Meanwhile an exhibition match was also played in which the Social Welfare Minister took active part.His team, legislators was 1-0 in the first half but made an all out recovery in the second half by coming back strong and ending the game with a score line of 4-2 against Friends United.In the second match Rymbai Iawpynsing won 3-0 against Shillong lajong FC.
