SHILLONG, Jan 12: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday announced the launch of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 for the youths of Meghalaya.
Chandrasekhar, who arrived in the state on a two-day visit on Thursday, made the announcement during a programme at the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong.
According to a statement, the PMKVY 4.0, which is a part of the Skill India Mission, provides courses and skilling programmes in various fields ranging from Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain to mobile repairing, vehicle maintenance and management, etc.
Addressing the gathering, the Union MoS referred to the initiatives undertaken in Meghalaya. He said, “We have already skilled around 20,000 youth earlier and plan to cover many more in the state in the coming 12 months.”
During the programme, the Union MoS also paid tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his 160th birth anniversary as well as Swami’s spiritual guru, Ramakrishna Paramhansa.
It may be mentioned that Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary is commemorated as National Youth Day on January 12 every year.
The Union MoS, after paying tributes, said, “Swami Vivekananda was a deep believer in the inevitability of India’s rise as well as in the power, the innovation and the determination of the Indian youth”
Chandrasekhar said it was a privilege for him to address an audience at the very place where Vivekananda had delivered a public lecture in 1901.
He also spoke about the emergence of a ‘New India’ under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Our PM has said that the future of India is technology, and has termed the next ten years as India’s Techade; and to make India’s Techade a reality, the youths must grab the opportunities available for them,” the Union MoS said.
During the day, he also met the members of the business community in the state capital and discussed about the skilling initiatives that are to be undertaken under PMKVY 4.0 for the empowerment of youths by creating job opportunities and entrepreneurial activities.
Chandrasekhar also held meetings with senior BJP leaders and karyakartas, and shared with them the prime minister’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.
He then met social workers and commended them for their efforts while also apprising them of various government programmes for the uplift of the needy.
