SHILLONG, Jan 14: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday disclosed that the process of filling up the vacancies in the department is on.
“The process is on, you have seen the exam for trade and all is going on and we hope that we will be able to do it as early as possible,” he said.
Some 2,000 posts have been lying vacant in the department for the past many years.
Former top cop and now a BJP leader, M Kharkrang had earlier criticised the government’s move to come up with seven police outposts when the state has some 2,000 unfilled vacancies and a thinning SF-10.
He had also said that many SF10 commandos were posted for general duties in manpower-starved police stations across the state.
Refusing to respond to such criticism, the Home Minister said the department is ensuring that the force is strengthened as per requirements.
On police personnel not being equipped adequately as witnessed in some cases, he said all shortcomings will be addressed and that the government is doing its best to see that all the facilities are provided.
Talking about setting up border outposts, Rymbui said, “We have decided to respond to the needs of the people and we will strengthen that. Wherever the need arises, we will not shy away from the responsibility.”
