SHILLONG, Jan 18: Most of the political parties in the state have welcomed the poll schedule announced by the Election Commission for Meghalaya which will vote in a single phase on February 27.
TMC leader George Lyngdoh said the party is absolutely fine with the date of polls and counting as the party and people of the state are eagerly waiting for a change in the state.
Echoing similar views, Congress president Vincent Pala said the date and duration of the entire election process is almost similar to the 2018 Assembly polls.
He however said that the Congress would have wanted the elections to be announced a couple of weeks earlier since the incumbent government has been making a lot of fake promises.
BJP State president Ernest Mawrie said the party is satisfied with the dates of the elections since the model code of conduct has come into force with the announcement of the polls.
NPP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh said the question of being happy or unhappy with the dates of the elections does not arise as it is beyond the control of the parties. She recalled that all the political parties have been preparing for the polls for quite a long time.
“We will step ahead as a state and proceed forward with the election process so that we can complete the exercise as per the timeline,” she added.
UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh also expressed satisfaction with the announcement of the election schedule.
