SHILLONG, Jan 25: As political parties brace for a hung assembly, overt and covert attempts are on for forming alliance to romp home.
After TMC made overtures to UDP — the balancing factor — in coalition formation, the NPP on Wednesday claimed that the bond it shares with its coalition partners is “very cohesive and based on experience and trust”. It dismissed speculations about UDP’s tectonic shift and asserted that “no matter what strategy the Opposition TMC comes up with, the bond will not break”, NPP spokesman Marcuise Marak said on Wednesday.
“We believe in working together in a good atmosphere. All the parties have (good) experience of working with us and we share a good bond and relation and they have faith and rely on our leadership,” he said.
Reminding that the TMC leaders now who were earlier in Congress had proven that they are bad coalition partners, Marak said that these leaders have already shown their true colours and nobody trusts them.
He said that wishful thinking is far different from the reality and no matter what strategies the TMC puts in place it will not succeed.
It may be mentioned that all the political parties have decided to contest the poll on their own without any pre-poll alliance in place. However, no one is ready to talk about the post poll understanding and is evading the question by maintaining that it is something which will be discussed and made known after the elections.
And while there are narratives that NPP and BJP will once again join hands post poll, rumours are rife that UDP and TMC have tacitly agreed to stitch a post poll alliance. Talking about the TMC’s Ten Pledges, Marak termed it wishful thinking.
The TMC is dreaming to be voted to power but the ground reality is that they will not cross the single-digit mark, he asserted.
“The social schemes are not practical and will drain out the exchequer. People have already started rejecting their schemes like WE Card and all and have already started burning them down,” Marak claimed.
Regarding TMC manifesto to revoke border MoU, he said this shows their desperation and they don’t know how much hard work has been put into it and so many people are happy about it, he said.
On another TMC claim of fulfilling the promises within 100 days of forming the government if voted to power, he asked, “Tell me which are 100 per cent sure seats for the TMC? How do they even think that they are coming to power?”
“They will not even touch double digits is what ground reports are saying and there is no question of them forming the government,” he asserted.
