Raj Bhawan’s Basketball and Tennis Championship ends

Shillong, Jan 28: Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra gave away the trophies to winners of the Inaugural Basketball and Tennis Championship here on Saturday.
The championship was organized by Raj Bhavan from January 24-28. Initiated by the Governor, the tournament was held as a mark of inaugurating the newly constructed basketball and tennis courts at Raj Bhavan. In the four days’ tournament, 8 (eight) teams participated in the Men’s Category of the Basketball tournament which included Umroi Military Station, Eastern Air Command, Civilian Team, Raj Bhavan, CRPF, Assam Rifles, 101 and Meghalaya Police; while two teams participated in the Women’s Category namely MLP and Civilian Team. There were 12 participants in the Tennis Tournament representing CRPF, Assam Rifles, HQ Eastern Air Command, Raj Bhavan and BSF.
The winner’s trophy in the men’s Basketball was lifted by 101 while the Runners up trophy was awarded to the Meghalaya Police.
Meanwhile, in the women’s basketball category, the MLP team came out on top as they defeated the civilian team 19-12.
In Tennis, the winner’s trophy went to Wanpynskhem Mawroh and the Runners Up trophy was lifted by Amit Ram.
The Most Valuable Player award in Basketball was awarded to R Thapa of 101, while in tennis the award went to Mawroh.
Also present on the occasion were Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and Meghalaya DGP Lajja Ram Bishnoi.
