SHILLONG, Feb 1: The BJP will announce its full list of candidates for the upcoming polls at 11 am on Thursday.
The party’s election committee met in New Delhi on Wednesday to finalise the list of candidates. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda and state BJP leaders AL Hek and Ernest Mawrie, besides others.
While details of the list were not available, party sources said both the sitting MLAs — AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai — as well as those who joined the party recently including HM Shangpliang have been named in the list. Former Cabinet Minister and NPP leader Martin M Danggo, who joined the BJP on Wednesday has been given the ticket, the sources said.
Earlier in the day, Danggo officially joined the BJP in the state capital.
The former Speaker said he obeyed the decision of his leaders and supporters and joined the BJP.
“It was not my decision. On January 30, all of my leaders gathered and resolved that I should resign from NPP and join BJP,” Danggo said.
Addressing the party workers, he sought the guidance of the party leaders in understanding the BJP’s constitution and manifesto.
