Curbs go for a toss amid nomination-filing in city

SHILLONG, Feb 3: Despite the strictures by the Chief Election Officer in place to ensure the general public does not face inconvenience amidst the ongoing filing of nominations, many candidates are being seen flouting the same in the state capital.
As per the orders, the supporters, brought by the candidates while filing nominations, are to be stationed at a good distance from the Office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner.
However, much to the general public’s agony, the regulations are being thrown out of the window with most of the candidates bringing their supporters all the way to the DC office, thereby leading to traffic snarls. In the past four days of filing nominations, it has been seen that many supporters of the candidates have been thronging the DC office, thereby leading to congestion within the office premises.
On Friday afternoon, police personnel stationed at the DC office were also seen asking the supporters to leave the DC office premises.
