MAWKYRWAT, Feb 3: Despite the NPP on Thursday reorganising itself in Ranikor constituency and recommending names of fresh party candidates in the wake of Martin M. Danggo’s exit, it has now been decided that the party will not field any candidate owing to unavailability of time.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the NPP Ranikor Block was reconstituted and names of NPP South West Khasi Hills unit president Kitborlang Nongrem and NPP Ranikor Block president Nelbi T Sangma were recommended to the NPP state election committee.
The names of fresh candidates were recommended days after Danggo, an NPP candidate, jumped ship to the BJP.
On Friday, however, a decision was taken in the presence of NPP national president Conrad K. Sangma, NPP national vice president Prestone Tynsong, and other party leaders that the party will not field anyone from Ranikor constituency.
Informing about the decision, NPP South West Khasi Hills unit president Kitborlang Nongrem said that during the meeting, the NPP leaders briefly discussed the situation in Ranikor constituency after Danggo left the party, and finally decided not to field any candidate in the upcoming elections in view of shortage of time.
He contended that albeit the NPP has enough leaders to contest the elections, it is, however, not easy to prepare in three weeks’ time.
When asked, Nongrem informed that till now the NPP has not decided whom to support from Ranikor constituency in the upcoming elections.
